I am very upset by the way I was manipulated by this person. He called my home yesterday and asked if there was anyway for me to remove the poor feedback i had left for the item. We chatted for a while and he said he would provide me a coupon code for their website, if i would remove the feedback. I went to the website this morning to use the coupon, it didnt work. I called the company, got Justin back on the phone. He said I had to remove the feedback first for the coupon to work. so i did. Now the first order arrived damaged and the company did not like the feedback I left.. anyway, once i added the item[s] to the cart, that showed free shipping, Justin tells me that there is a 7.99 shipping cost. Honestly, it looks cool from far away. I put it on a vaulted ceiling wall in my entry, like 10 feet above your head. It looks good there. Up close you will see that this thing is made from thin pieces of bent tin or something. All very simple, very cheap design. literally looks like something stamped out in a factory to give away as a prize at a fair, that sort of cheap.If you like the look of this clock and won't get close enough to see how freaking low-quality it is, go for it. It technically works and looks nice and retro. But closer than 6 feet away or so you see that the pieces don't even line up properly, and the tips of the star points are open and you can see that it is all bent tin. Every piece on the clock is open-backed, the star points are just right-angle bent pieces of thin metal, and the white center piece is a slightly less cheap cup-shaped hollow piece with a 99 cent plastic clock installed in it. I was also pleased with this purchase. Yes, it is a bit loud when it ticks (I agree), but it really is beautiful to look at! So Jetsons!!! If you compare it to the other knock-offs of this George Nelson original, I think it is not a terribly high price. It may have been made as cheaply as possible (I would have liked a back plate to cover the mechanism), but the proportions are much nicer and it's larger than some of the other, more expensive replicas available on Amazon. I bought this to keep it outdoors (but covered from rain) near my pool, and I just couldn't be happier with the look of it. I wouldn't do that with a REAL George Nelson clock!! If this gets wrecked from the sun in a few years, I won't be devastated, considering the price I paid for it. I just hope it keeps working for a while, as I've only had it a week. So far, so good! ;-) |
